Daily Dose of Poetry – Today’s Poem: When His Sky Is Falling

When His Sky Is Falling

by Kay Kestner:

When His Sky Is Falling

It’s not the falling sky
that worries me this way.
Not the pending cataclysmic
asteroid attack on the earth.
No, love, what worries me
is your eyes afraid to look
into mine and those lips
that just can’t manage to
make the words to explain
to me what it is that’s
going on inside of your
head hanging low.

What worries me is when
we lose the words and I
doubt my ability to read
your eyes and the angle
of your shoulder.  What
worries me is that you
don’t realize that my arms
can understand everything,
that my shoulders can hear
every word you don’t know
how to speak right now.

What worries me is that you
won’t come into these arms
that you won’t rest on my shoulder,
that for some reason
the world has convinced you
that you should just carry this
burden all on your own.

Do Something for Democracy

Given the rapid changes to our government in the United States, it’s vitally important for us to speak up. Silence and apathy will only embolden a leader who serves his own agenda – an agenda that undermines democracy both within the US and around the world.

Every small act adds up when we all “do something.” Even if it’s just making one call, once a week to one of your representatives – that adds up!

The resources on the Do Something for Democracy page give you ways you can take action. Find what fits your comfort level. No one can do it all, but we all can do a little something.
