Daily Dose of #Poetry – Today’s Poem: Always

Always

Occasionally, we can breathe, really breathe
instead of sucking on the humid remains of
yesterday’s rain.  We can smell the scent of
life as something other than the sap of a
bitter tree.  Occasionally, we’re pretty,
not sexy, not dirty.  We get the chance,
now and then, to be human.  We speak,
and on a strange night we are heard.
Voice of reason.  Voice of wisdom.
Not just that of the songbird.
We treasure the second someone notices
we know the answers, not just the questions.
Sometimes we speak our minds without
excusing ourselves afterwards.  Even daring,
now and then, to be proud, to stand our ground.
Occasionally, we state the exact weight we carry.
And always we carry. And always we are strong.

Do Something for Democracy

The resources on the Do Something for Democracy page give you ways you can take action. Find what fits your comfort level. No one can do it all, but we all can do a little something.

Given the rapid changes to our government in the United States, it’s vitally important for us to speak up. Silence and apathy will only embolden Trump’s authoritarian power grab as he advances his own agenda for power and personal profit – an agenda that undermines democracy both within the US and around the world.

Every small act adds up when we all “do something.” Even if it’s just making one call, once a week to one of your representatives – that adds up!
